Terms of Service
Last updated: September 15, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Kalem ("the App"), developed by Berk Erdogan ("we", "our", or "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
These Terms apply in addition to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If the two conflict, Apple's agreement applies.
2. Description of Service
Kalem is an iOS app for reading and studying the Qur'an. It provides:
- A Qur'an reader with translations, commentary (tafsir), and audio recitations
- A chat that answers questions only from the Qur'an and its commentary, shows the verses it used, and declines questions it cannot answer from that material
- Prayer times and a Qibla direction finder
- A hadith library
- Memorization (Hifz) tools, a dhikr counter, reminders, and home-screen widgets
The App is available in English, Turkish, and French. Features may change as the App is updated.
3. No Account Required
The App does not require registration. Premium access is tied to the Apple Account you use for your purchase.
4. Premium, Subscriptions, and Payments
Some features are free, with limits shown in the App. Premium unlocks additional features. Premium is offered as an auto-renewable Weekly Premium or Yearly Premium subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the App and on the App Store before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple Account settings on your device.
- If a free trial or introductory offer is shown, its terms are displayed before you confirm. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription.
- Purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests are handled by Apple under the App Store terms.
Premium time earned through invitations is a free bonus. We may change or end invitation rewards at any time.
5. Chat and Religious Content Disclaimer
The chat draws its answers from the Qur'an text and published commentary included in the App, and it shows the verses it used. The wording of each answer is generated by an AI model (provided by OpenAI), so answers can contain errors or miss context.
- Answers are for study and reflection only. They are not religious rulings (fatwas).
- For important religious matters, please consult qualified Islamic scholars.
- Always check an answer against the cited verses.
- Prayer times are calculated by a third-party service and can differ from your local mosque or authority. Please confirm times locally when accuracy matters.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or interfere with the App or the services it uses
- Use the chat to generate harmful, abusive, or inappropriate content
- Use automated means to send requests through the App
7. Intellectual Property
The App's software, design, and original text are the property of Berk Erdogan. The Qur'an text, translations, commentary, recitations, and hadith collections come from third-party sources and remain the property of their respective owners.
8. Limitation of Liability
The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for damages arising from the use of the App, including inaccurate prayer times or chat answers. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country.
9. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms when the App changes. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
